Staged annually on the first Sunday in July, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is set to motivate and challenge more than 23,000 people of all ages and abilities.

There will be a Marathon, a Half Marathon, a 10km Run, a 5km Challenge and Junior Dash races over 4km and 2.25km for the kids. Runners crave the magnificent running conditions on the Gold Coast in winter, as well as the flat, fast and beautiful course that runs alongside the Pacific Ocean surf beaches and broadwater.

It annually assembles a quality field of elite runners pursuing a slice of the large prizemoney pool and the various championships on offer. Most of the event’s participants take part for the personal challenge, the experience of a vibrant community event and embracing a healthy and active lifestyle. The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is also great to participate in as a group and offers a streamlined entry system for teams of 20 or more.

UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao will look to defend his title for the second time when he takes on former WEC champion Eddie Wineland in the main event of UFC 161.

Barao (32-1, 1NC) has gone 31 straight fights without a loss (30 wins, 1 no contest). He took out Michael McDonald in his last outing, winning via fourth round arm triangle choke.

Wineland (20-8-1) has won back-to-back fights against tough opposition in Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett and looks to hold championship gold once again with a win over Barao.

The co-main event will consist of a light heavyweight bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueria and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The fight is a rematch from their instant classic that took place in PRIDE back in 2005 in which Rua won via decision.

Cain Velasquez will defend his heavyweight title in a rematch against Antonio (Bigfoot) Silva.

Velasquez (12-1) and Silva (18-4) first met at UFC 146 last May where Velasquez made quick work of the Brazilian, cutting him open with an elbow and pounding out a TKO win just 3:36 into round one.

The champion is coming off a five-round unanimous decision win over Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 where he reclaimed the title he lost to dos Santos 13 months earlier.

Silva meanwhile is riding high after two consecutive knockout wins, the latest being a highlight reel KO of feared striker Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 earlier this month. Before the Overeem KO, Silva bounced back from his loss to Velasquez by knocking out Travis Browne in October.

The two men have been trash talking back and forth for over a year. Now let’s see them put their money where their mouths are.
